Who Says Dressers Are Only For Bedrooms?!

When a former client of mine reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in finding her a dresser that she could use as a bathroom vanity for her daughter's bathroom, I didn't hesitate to say yes! I actually had this dresser in my inventory stash and it just so happened to be the perfect size for the bathroom! Once my client's talented dad did some revisions to the middle drawer of the dresser for the plumbing, the dresser was all mine to revive for a new life and purpose!

I found this dresser at an estate sale near me (Zeeland, MI) and didn't at the time think too much of the fact that it looked like it was stained a dark olive green. However when I went to remove this finish, it turned out that the green was not stain, but paint and had a brown antiquing glaze over it... All which ended up taking several hours to remove.

Once the dresser was completely sanded down to the original finish, I sealed it with Bin Shellac (this comes in a spray and brush on formula) to prevent any bleed through and then began the fun part of applying paint! I used The Chippy Barn color Winter Blanket, which is a very soft, warm gray. I used my favorite Zibra paint brush, the 2" chiseled wedge to apply 3 fairly thin coats allowing for a smooth looking finish. My client also wanted distressing and this dresser has a lot of fun curves and raised areas that made the distressing step so much fun! I applied 3 coats (4 on the top) of General Finished High Performance Topcoat in flat to the entire piece. Typically a dresser doesn't require this many coats, but because of the purpose it was now going to serve in a bathroom this was a must! Lastly, my client chose these beautiful glass knobs with a matte black metal backing from Amazon to give this dresser an elegant farmhouse look.
